Modern Organizing
Organization 101 is representative of a structured approach to getting business done. There’s typically a hierarchy, significant of a point person who holds the power. The one everyone answers to. Ideas, concepts, etc., then flow vertically and upward. There’s definitely then, a chain of command. Like the military system, a life left behind years ago, things are very hierarchical, organized, disciplined. There are definite rules and regulations. Traditional organization is one that is very fixed and rigid.
There have to be boundaries. But, there also has to be opportunities for imagination and innovation. Modern organization is more about consensus building, relationships, listening, understanding, and emphasis on team dynamics, whereby the team works as a collaborative to get to the destination…willingly vs. begrudgingly and without voice being drug along.
In our travels, we’ve realized that we’re not too keen on tours. We like to explore, meet the people, study the maps on foot and via public transport to figure it out. It’s not sometimes as structured, but then again, neither are we. The likelihood of the two of us ever meeting all those years ago, was quite serendipitous. I’m the organized dreamer, and he’s the visionary thinker, and there are days, when we are completely and totally diametrically opposed. But, one thing that never fails us, lies in our following our dreams. In our partnership, we play our positions, and it’s evidenced in how we travel too. I can fit neatly two weeks worth of gear in my travel cubes, all in one suitcase. He, travels BIG. But, I’m grateful. Because at the end of any journey, it’s me who needs all the extra space for my bounty that I return home with, and I always do!
